KILTRO - Starring Marko Zaror, Caterina Jadresic, Miguel Angel De Luca, Daniela Lhorente, Luis Alarcón, Alejandro Castillo, Man Soo Yoon, Ximena Rivas Marko Zaror has got to be the greatest new talent in martial arts anywhere. From the very beginning, Zamir (Marko) reveals a tortured soul of unrequited love for Kim (Caterina) after mistaking her response to his heroism when Kim faced being raped by local thugs. Street wise Zamir is the head kid on the block but is no match for real martial artists as he finds out when he tries to take on 20 novices at the local Dojo in a vain bid to impress Kim, the daughter of the Sensei. A sombre and thought provoking film turns to extreme violence when Kalba (Miguel Angel De Luca) returns to the town he left so long ago seeking revenge against Kim's father and others for the death of the woman he loved. |
After Kalba takes Kim and her father hostage, Zamir must learn the true way of the warrior and he is sent to the north of the country to train under Soto, a Zeta Master. There he leans to embrace the Zeta State, whereby all things are possible and he is then ready to confront the evil that awaits him.
The scenes that follow are truly awe inspiring. Zamir takes on no less than ONE HUNDRED local street thugs who are guarding the hideout where Kim and her father lay helpless before the evil intent of Kalba.
I have not seen anything so good as that fight scene in a very long time. It did not even look staged, such was its realism and intensity. The action was so fluid and continuous that Zamir went through them like a knife goes through butter.
Then to the finale itself and the fight between Zamir and Kalba. I was expecting the usual face off that one sees so often in martial arts films but I was wrong. This was more intense and psychological in its structure.
A masterful creation written, produced and directed by Ernesto Diaz Espinoza. Remember that name and remember Marko Zamor. For if Espinoza can produce more movies like Kiltro and if we see Marko take on the mantle of the great martial arts expert that he truly is, then we are in for a real revival in martial arts films.
This film is a definite must watch movie.
